MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) – Belarus is ready, in collaboration with its partners in the CSTO and the SCO, to participate in the international stabilization and development efforts in Afghanistan, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he addressed the 6th meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of the member states of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Nur-Sultan on 12 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Today we need to admit that the security situation in the Asian region and the world as a whole is in a state of uncertainty. The situation in Afghanistan has suddenly become a new challenge for the entire world due to the hegemonic ambitions and policies of Western countries to impose democracy at any cost,” the minister said.
“Ongoing developments directly affect our partners in the CSTO and our own interests threatening a surge in terrorism and extremism, an increase in drug trafficking, illegal migration and international crime and their spread to the entire Eurasian space,” the minister said.
Vladimir Makei stressed that Belarus is interested in restoring peace in Afghanistan and creating an enabling environment for a national dialogue.
